Life

Wilmington is in the middle of it all! Located just 30-minutes from Philadelphia and midway between New York and Washington D.C., Wilmington offers fast and convenient access to major east coast cities. But the beauty of life in Wilmington is not the access it provides to major cities, but the fantastic amenities and friendly neighbors here at home.

This is a warm community where people of all backgrounds and talents are welcome. In Wilmington, you can make a difference. Young professionals appreciate this opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the city, as do entrepreneurs and executives of major corporations. From participation in city-wide planning and initiatives to volunteerism and helping to plan festivals, events and neighborhood activities - there are opportunities for everyone to make an impact on the community.

From a financial perspective, living in Wilmington brings additional perks. The cost of living here is lower than the national average and of nearby cities. Lower housing costs, for example, make it easier for first time homebuyers to enter the housing market. When combined with good jobs, a beautiful city to live in, good school options, and access - Wilmington stands out as a top destination for those relocating from other east coast cities.

Downtown Wilmington is quickly gaining a reputation as a destination city for innovative chefs and food lovers. Modern Italian bistro Bardea opened in 2018 and has already been named a semifinalist for the James Beard Award. Torbert Street Social, a speakeasy cocktail bar in a historic brick building is another newcomer garnering attention, as is Deco - a contemporary food hall and launchpad for local chefs. Le Cavalier is another new restaurant on the scene that is opening in the historic Hotel Du Pont. The French brasserie is opening in the famed Green Room and will pull influences from Provence and North African cuisines.

Waterfront Parks & Entertainment

Wilmington’s waterfront along the Delaware River is a popular destination for taking a walk, grabbing a bite to eat, listening to concerts, visiting museums and galleries and enjoying all that this great city has to offer. The Riverfront Blues Festival is held here and attracts visitors from throughout the region. Additional downtown activities include beer gardens with cornhole and music, networking events and festivals.

As the largest urban park in Delaware, with 178 acres, Brandywine Park is a popular destination located in the heart of the city. Brandywine Park was added to the National Historic Register in 1976. The park includes inviting wooded trails, formal gardens, sculptures, a sports stadium and a zoo. Not to be forgotten are the many trails, picnic spots and cultural events held there.
