In 2020 there were more Black-owned businesses started than during any point in the last quarter of a century, yet less than 1% of Black-owned businesses received venture capital funding during that same time period. While all small businesses were hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, Black businesses were hit the hardest with 41% of all Black-owned businesses being forced to close.
In 2021, Black small business owners still struggle to find their footing and achieve the financial success of their cultural counterparts, largely due to lack of access to the tools necessary for sustainability. They also rarely achieve the same level of one very important factor: Visibility.
